Reading Kansas both showcases undergraduate archival research and is made by undergraduate students, from the images to the digital webpage itself, as the final collaborative project of the Honors seminar “The Power of the Page: Books That Made Us” taught in the English Department at Kansas State University during fall semester 2016. The eight students (five seniors, two juniors, and a sophomore) enrolled in the seminar— Abilene Alderson, Hallie Lucas, Hunter Nelson, Sarah Peterson, Adam Smith, Malorie Wagner, Dylan Wheeler, and Cheyenne White— met twice each week for seminar discussion with regular visits to Hale Library and special collections. In fact, all eight books explored and described in Reading Kansas are housed in Hale Library’s special collections.
